Susan Holt Simpson is a lifelong reader, the kind who kept stacks of books tucked under her bed as a child. (Which honestly tells you everything you need to know.) She graduated with honors from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in elementary education, later earning her master’s as well. Literature has always been her lane.
She taught in an inner-city Kentucky school where she made great books the heartbeat of her classroom and was selected to participate in the NKU Writing Project to help develop writing for broader audiences. And then… life shifted beautifully. Three sons. Homeschooling. Church-based academic teams. She illustrated an all-Bible curriculum and self-published a coach’s guide, which was distributed statewide. Just casually building the kingdom through literature.
Somewhere along the way, she was handed a family story. The kind that won’t let you go. And that’s when her novel began. She joined Word Weavers International, stepped deeper into the writing world, and hasn’t looked back.
Susan’s work has appeared in Focus on the Family’s children’s magazines, Keys for Kids, Unlocked for Teens, and Guideposts Online. She’s won awards in women’s fiction, contemporary fiction, flash fiction, poetry, and children’s literature. She has also contributed to inspirational collections like Love and Care for the One and Only You and More Christmas Moments. Her newest book, The Homeplace, is set for release by CrossRiver in 2027.
Today, Susan continues serving as an enrichment educator at a local classical academy and writing across multiple genres — all while adventuring through grandparent life with her husband of over thirty years.
