Discover Your Identity in Christ

Discover Your Identity in Christ - Uncover your Divine Design by Robin Melvin released by Christian publisher CrossRiver MediaFor years, Robin Melvin asked herself the same question many of us ask: Who am I? The question felt logical, even essential, as she tried to navigate the struggles of life. But in her book, Uncover Your Divine Design, Robin explains why this question leads us down the wrong path.

“When we focus on Who am I? we often look inward or to the world for answers,” Robin says. “We define ourselves by our pain, our past, or what other people think of us. It’s a trap that keeps us stuck.”

Robin’s journey to discovering her true identity in Christ began when she realized she was asking the wrong question. Instead of looking inward, she needed to look upward. “The better question is, God, who are You, and who did You create me to be?” she says.

The Problem with ‘Who Am I?’

According to Robin, the question Who am I? puts the burden of self-definition on our own shoulders. That burden often leads to confusion, insecurity, and comparison. “We start measuring our worth by our accomplishments, failures, or the opinions of others,” she explains. “And that’s not what God intended for us.”

Instead of finding clarity, asking Who am I? often pulls us further away from the truth of who God says we are. Robin believes this is where many people, especially women, struggle.

“We’re searching for validation in the wrong places,” Robin says. “But our Creator has already given us the answer.”

A Better Question to Ask

So, what should we be asking? Robin encourages readers to turn their attention to God: “Ask, God, who are You? When we understand who He is—His goodness, faithfulness, and love—we begin to understand who we are in Him.”

The next question follows naturally: God, who did You create me to be? By focusing on our identity in Christ, we can see ourselves through God’s eyes: loved, chosen, and redeemed.

“Our identity isn’t something we achieve,” Robin says. “It’s a gift we receive from God. When we stop striving to define ourselves and start trusting His design, everything changes.”

Living in the Truth of God’s Design

Robin’s book outlines practical steps to help women move from the confusion of Who am I? to the clarity of God, who are You, and who did You create me to be? One of the key steps is renewing our minds with Scripture.

“Romans 12:2 tells us to let God transform us by changing the way we think,” Robin says. “When we align our thoughts with His truth, we can break free from the lies that hold us back.”

Robin also emphasizes the importance of community and prayer in discovering our identity. “God often uses others to remind us of who we are in Him,” she says. “And prayer is where we invite Him to reveal the truth about ourselves and our purpose.”
