Liisa Eyerly’s murder mystery series The Secrets of Ephesus adds a fascinating Christian twist to the historical mystery genre of the first-century Roman empire. Her first novel, Obedient Unto Death, was published in 2022, won the Eric Hoffer First Horizon Award for a debut novel, and took first place in the Spiritual Fiction category. Her second book, Fortunes of Death will be released in the fall of 2024.
Liisa grew up following the tantalizing breadcrumb clues of her favorite whodunnits. Her love of scripture and history sparked her transition from reading mysteries to writing them. She was fascinated by the Apostle Paul’s description of the drama and intrigue of the first Christians battling for their faith in a pagan culture similar to ours. Her murder mysteries pose the thought-provoking question: Can we trust the indisputable word of God as the earliest believers did when confronted with life and death choices?
Liisa’s forty-year journey to becoming a writer took a backseat to motherhood, teaching, graduate school, a second career as a librarian, and opening and closing a stained-glass business. She got serious about writing after reaching fifty, a testament to her perseverance.
- She has lived in some of the most beautiful states in the U.S.: Oregon, Colorado, Montana, the UP of Michigan, and Iowa.
- She and her husband raised their family in Ashland, Wisconsin.
- Liisa currently resides in the woods of northern Wisconsin with her husband, two dogs, two kayaks, and long winters conducive to writing.
- When not immersed in her writing, she plays pickleball, reads, attends Bible study, and travels to visit children, grandchildren, and the lands of the Ancient Roman Empire.
